Rent-a-car website with reservations
A rent-a-car website with reservations starts at €900, with a typical timeline of 2–4 weeks. You get a vehicle catalogue, an availability calendar and request administration. It's built for companies that want a customer to submit rental details in one place, and staff to check the vehicle, dates and agreed terms from a panel.
Vehicle availability also depends on when the last one comes back
For car rental, two dates aren't always enough. A car returned in the evening might not be ready for a same-day handover, and drop-off at a different location needs extra coordination. So before sketching a calendar, we agree on minimum rental length, the buffer needed for prep, and how a vehicle gets blocked for servicing. The rules need to make sense to both the customer and your staff.
The next key decision is whether a customer picks an exact car or a vehicle class. That changes how photos, availability and possible substitutions are shown. The site clearly marks what a submitted request confirms, and what still needs your review. The form should collect enough for a real quote, without promising something operations can't deliver.
What a car rental website can include
Vehicle or class catalogue
Each listing shows seat count, transmission, boot space and other details that matter for the choice. We agree whether a photo represents the exact car or an example of its class, so the customer understands what they're picking before entering dates.
Availability calendar
The schedule covers confirmed rentals and periods a vehicle is unavailable. Staff can enter a reservation that came in through another channel. We specifically define the rules for a request still awaiting confirmation and any temporary vehicle hold.
Pickup and drop-off details
The form records the rental start and end, plus agreed locations. If airport delivery or drop-off elsewhere is offered, we show its terms clearly. We never assume that service is available just because a location was selected.
Duration-based pricing
Prices can depend on season, rental length and vehicle class. Before building, we clarify what counts as a billing day and how a late return is handled. You check a sample calculation before those rules go live on the site.
Extras and add-on services
A child seat, an extra driver or other options can be part of a request. Limited-stock items need their own availability rule. The final price view separates confirmed items from ones still awaiting your review.
Rental terms shown before submission
Alongside the form we display clear information about deposits, required documents and cancellation, all approved by you. A customer should see these in time. The legal wording comes from your own terms of business — I don't draft it myself.
Reservation and fleet panel
Staff see requests by date and vehicle, with customer contact details and processing status. We agree who can change the schedule and listings. For a first version, we choose the view that matches your day-to-day work.
Multiple languages and email notices
An international customer can read the offer and submit a request in a supported language. The received-request confirmation summarises what was entered. Before launch we check translated terms, message recipients, and how staff respond.
Cost and timeline
| Package | Starting price | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Booking website | from €900 | 2–4 weeks |
The booking package covers an agreed first version, with a catalogue and rental request handling. Price is shaped by the number of fare types, substitution rules, multiple locations and how requests get confirmed. Photo count on its own isn't a good complexity indicator — pricing and availability exceptions usually take more attention.
Connecting to existing fleet software, card payments or detailed damage records are each estimated separately. For a broader business application, the starting package is €2,500, over 4–10 weeks. You get a fixed quote within 48h of a short call, and you know upfront which features are in the price and which are left for a later phase.
A real project
I haven't published a rent-a-car project. The relevant experience comes from the reservation system I built for Srbija Tours and DriveSoft, which has processed 150,000+ tickets and reservations. The same underlying booking logic connects a resource, a period, confirmation and administration — but car rental has its own particular rules.
That experience carries over into avoiding double-booking, keeping statuses clear, and controlled operator access. I don't blindly transplant seat sales onto a fleet of cars: rental duration, service buffers and pickup locations get defined for your business specifically. The DriveSoft case study shows existing work with reservations and operations, without claiming I've already delivered that system for a car rental client.
Why work directly with a developer, not an agency
One person from the call to the server
You agree on scope with me, follow development, and take over a finished site. Questions go straight to the person writing the code.
A fixed quote for the agreed work
You get a price, scope and phases within 48h of a short call. Anything beyond that scope is agreed in advance, separately.
No agency markup
Working directly can be more affordable than an agency, since you pay for development and the services you actually need, with clear accountability for delivery.
Maintenance from €50/month
Fixes are free for the first 30 days after launch. Ongoing support and maintenance are agreed separately, based on the pricing page.

Questions about rent-a-car websites
Does the customer pick a specific car or just a class?
We can support either, but they need separating in the offer and the admin panel. If you sell by class, the customer should know the pictured model may be substituted with an equivalent vehicle. If they pick a specific car, availability is tracked for that vehicle. We settle on the approach your operations can reliably follow before development starts.
How is double-booking prevented?
A confirmed rental blocks the vehicle for its period, plus an agreed prep buffer. Reservations from a phone call or other channels need to enter the same record. Requests still awaiting a reply get their own status. Confirmation and simultaneous-acceptance rules are checked during testing, so two operators can't confirm the same car.
Can I charge a deposit through the site?
That's a possible additional integration, but it depends on the provider you choose and how you handle charging or holding funds. Charging an amount immediately isn't the same as just reserving it. We check the supported process before quoting it, and you confirm the terms with your payment provider and your own advisors.
Can the site show different prices per season?
Yes, with calculation rules defined upfront. We need to decide how to charge a rental that starts in one season and ends in another. We also check extra hours, minimum duration and any discounts. You provide the price list and examples, and I turn them into a clear display and a verifiable calculation.
Can it connect to our fleet management software?
I first check whether it has an API, an export, or another supported way to exchange data. Then we determine where the authoritative reservation lives and how changes are processed. Without that check, I won't promise automatic syncing. If integration isn't available, we can plan an inquiry-based site with staff confirming availability in your existing software.
What if a simple rental inquiry is enough for now?
Then we build a simpler flow: the customer picks a vehicle, dates and location, and you check availability and reply. The confirmation email doesn't say the car is reserved. That kind of version can be a good starting point while the schedule is still managed outside the site. We plan any later expansion around the data and rules you already use.
Let's start from your fleet's rules
Send an example price list, pickup locations and a description of how you currently track reservations. I'll propose a site that matches how you confirm rentals, with a clear scope and price before work begins.
